| In 1901 the Avalon Moravian Church was built up on a hill overlooking the town. This was the only church in Avalon. The following ministers preached at the Mayodan and Avalon churches: William E. Spaugh(1901-1903), Charles H. Wenhold(1904), Edgar A. Holton(1905-1908), Carlton E. White(1909-1910), and F.W. Grabs(1910-1911). |

The Avalon Hotel was built to accommodate the executives of the Avalon Mill. The hotel had 11 rooms and was ran by J.J. Vaden for a while. Mrs. Belle Carter took over and ran the hotel until about 1912. |

Eugene Benton designed this cable car as a better way to cross the Mayo River to get to Bentontown. The cable car was constructed by Mack Crotts and Charlie Smith who both worked in the machine shop at the mill. |
