Moved the site under a different domain name (electricgypsybbs.com) named after the BBS (Bulletin Board System)
I ran back in the 1990's. The old domain (electricgypsy.net) will
redirect to the new site until it expires in April 2010. If you have this site bookmarked you'll need
to re-bookmark it or update your links before the old domain expires. Also... the guestbook is locked
for the time being. I had to do something about the spam. Maybe some of the spammers will
give up and remove my guestbook from their spam bots--yeah right! It's down right ridiculous. My script prevents
99.999999% of the spam entries from being displayed. I've been recording the spam entries to the database since
January. Today, while backing things up for the domain move I noticed it took an unusually long time to download the contents
of the guestbook database. There have been over fourteen thousand spam entries since January. Thats like fifty entries a day!
I have to do something about that. Today I have other things that require my time so for now the guestbook is locked.

After a brief silence :) I have just completed adding a new section...
The Deeds Of Avalon. I have transcribed deeds once
held by The Avalon Mills Company to text and have added them to this site.
Click Here to view them. I found some of the information
contained in these deeds quite interesting which probably means more research for
me in the near future.

We're still here. No major updates yet. Fixed a Guestbook issue that could cause some
entries not to be displayed. To avoid spammers harvesting email addresses, I no longer display
them on the guestbook. Entering a email address to a guestbook entry is still
and always has been optional. If an email is entered it is recorded to the database,
but I'm the only one who can view them. I've also fixed or trashed a few outdated links.
I can't believe it's 2006 already.

Long time no changes. I have moved the site to new server under a different domain name.
The old domain name is currently being forwarded to the new site. However, when the domain
expires I do not plan on renewing it. So... Please update your bookmarks to point
to the new pages. I'm striped off the message board, and all of it's related
components due to a lack of interest. I do plan on adding more to the site in
the future. Lately I just haven't had the time to put into it. My email address has
also changed. I was getting a huge amout of junk emails to the old address. If you
have sent me an email and didn't get a response I may have overlooked your message by
mistake. Write me again to the new address and I should receive it.

Added two aerial views of Avalon from 1999. The first is just a photo of the area.
The second I overlayed the proposed siding map, and labeled some of the current

Added a new links section. Here you will find links to other sites
related to local history and genealogy. If you have or know of a
site that ought to be listed, you can also submit sites on the links
page.

All of the images in the photos section have been replaced. I've also
added some photos that were not there before. A new section has been
added called maps which contains maps and drawings that are related
to Avalon. If anyone has any ideas or more information that can be
added to this site, let me know.

I've changed the navitational links to something the site can grow with. The tabs
would not work out because they took up too much space. Also, the navigation for
all of the pages is now controlled by a single script. It will be much easier to add
links in the future since I now only have to make changes to a single script. The
navigational script is smart enough to know what page you are viewing, therefore you
will never get a link to the same page you are on. The login bar that was originally
only on the main page is now incorporated into all of the pages. If you are not logged
in the bar will give you the option of logging in from every page. If you are logged in
the bar will display the links for editing/viewing your information.
I have rescanned a lot of the photos and will be replacing them in the next couple of days.

I've just added three message forums to this site. Currently the
links to the forums only exist on the main page. I still have to
rework my navigational stuff to include the forums. I've tested
my message board and related scripts pretty thoroughly. However,
if you do notice any bugs I would appreciate if you would let me
know. You must be logged in to post or reply to messages in the
forums. Click Here (Feature Removed) to goto the signup
page and get a login name and password. Once logged in you can
post messages freely. If you are using a public computer I would
recommend selecting the logoff option from the main page when you
are done. Currently, sessions expire automatically after 4 hours.

We've finally began updating and repairing this site
since moving to a new server back in September. The move
was due to an upgrade of my
photography site. I wanted PHP and MySql to make the site
more dynamic which required me to move it to a different server.
The Avalon site was located on the same machine so I had to move
it too. I've had so many projects going on during the past year
that I've not had a lot of time to work on the Avalon site. Time
has been a lot more plentiful since I've been laid off work for
several weeks now. So if anyone is looking for a photographer or
programmer for websites, I'm available :) The Avalon site lost a
lot of function due to the move. The guestbook was down because
the new server required that my perl scrips be located in a different
directory. Rather than making the old scripts work, I decided to
rewrite everything in PHP instead of Perl. The new guestbook is
now running and I did import all of the previous entries into it.
The guestbook entries are now stored in a database making it a
breeze to maintain. I've given the site an entire makeover because
I thought it was about time for a change. Im in the process of
reworking the photos. The originals were scanned on an el cheapo
flatbed scanner and were sized for a 640x480 screen. I'm rescanning
the photos on a film scanner to improve the quality. Some of the
full size images may still not work. They will work as soon as I
get them rescanned and replaced. A message board is in the works.
My scripts for the board are working, I just want to do some more
testing before I turn them loose. If you have any questions or

No updates in long time. Sorry. My current job has been
crazy. Haven't had a lot of time to work on the site. I'm hoping
to add some new material soon. Thinking of expanding this site to include
the history of Mayodan. Mayodan has their own site Here.
However, I'm not particularly fond of it. I wish I had known they were looking for someone to
build a web site. Someone suggested doing something with the old Washington mills park. Would anyone
be interested in seeing stuff about Washinton Mill park here? I would need permission to enter the
land and photograph it. Any suggestions are always appreciated.

Finally a couple of small updates! I removed the
maps section since nothing was ever there. Replaced
maps with the Memorabilia page that I've been adding
to the menus for a couple of months now.

My registration perl script is up and running. You may now register with the Avalon site.
Registration gives you the option of receiving an email whenever the Avalon site updates.
In the near future registered users will be able to post messages to the upcoming message
board. Now that the registration script is functional I can start working on the message
board. We're outta here next week. Taking off and going to Cherry Grove SC. Therefore, I
will not be able to check my email til Monday, September 17th.

Face lift complete. Added several new and old photos of Avalon.
Reworked some of the text and image descriptions. Everything should
now be working. Will be doing some minor fixes over the next couple of
days.
